Post-marital agreement is a written contract entered into by a couple after they are married.  Like a premarital agreement, it enables married couples to control their legal rights and obligations when the marriage ends.

The legal requirements for notice and disclosure between the parties are different for a pre-marital agreement versus a post-marital agreement.

It is important that a party receive adequate and thorough consultation prior to making a decision on the necessity or manner that such agreements may work within the entirety of their overall estate planning goals and objectives.  This sometimes requires consultation with professionals who have skills and expertise beyond that espoused by a family law or estate planning attorney.
